Conveniently located a few minutes away from the Baltimore Beltway (I-695) and the Jones Falls Expressway (I-83), the Greengate Development was built in the 1970s. Greengate is a highly-desirable, vibrant community with about 300 single-family homes. Ours is the second oldest community East of Greenspring Avenue between Old Court Road and Smith Avenue, with access points at the intersections of Greenspring Avenue and Sugarcone Road on the West, and Old Pimlico Road and Rockland Hills Drive on the East. The public schools that educate our children are all among the very best in Baltimore County: Summit Park Elementary School, Pikesville Middle School, and Pikesville Senior High School.
Known for its beautiful landscaping, our community is aptly named. Large old-growth trees buffer much of Greengate, all of our streets are tree-lined, and our carefully maintained lawns and gardens feature flowering-cherry and pine trees, among many others. Our single-family homes include two-story colonials, ranchers with basements, and California-contemporary-style houses.
Greengate homeowners are invited and urged to join their nonprofit “Greengate Community Association,” which is governed by a hard-working, unpaid board of directors elected by the Association’s members. Each board member serves a two-year term, and half of our directors are elected every year to assure continuity and promote leadership training. In addition to the board, we have a number of committees in which community members are active. For example, our Welcoming Committee greets new families in Greengate, and our Social Committee plans community-wide events such as the “Block Party” we held in June 2011, which almost 200 residents of the community attended. The Board also oversees the maintenance of the Greengate signs and landscaping at the entrance to the development at Greenspring Avenue and Sugarcone Road.
The purposes of the Greengate Community Association are simple: We exist to enhance the livability of Greengate and the value of its homes, as well as to foster community spirit and neighborliness among all our residents. We also maintain active lines of communication between our Association and the other community and homeowners associations in the Greater Pikesville-Greenspring Area to work on and resolve area-wide concerns. In addition to social events, our Association holds an Annual Meeting and a number of other General Meetings, as needed, throughout the year. We strive for 100% participation by the community in our efforts to make it an ever-better place to live.
